Triund which is known as the ” Crown Jewel of Dharamshala ” attracts many tourists from all across the country and all over the world. This popular trekking destination is situated in the laps of the Dhauladhar Mountains and offers a vista of the Dhauladhar range one side and the Kangra valley on the other!
This trek can be attained by all age groups. It is uncomplicated during the first 5 kilometers but the last one kilometer consists of the famous ” 22 curves ” which are actually the 22 most tiring curves. Keeping refreshments in mind there are many refreshment stalls of tea, coffee, Maggie etc.
Best time to be involved in this trek is from March to May during the first half of the year and September to December in the second half of the year. Trekking during monsoon is also possible despite of the rainfall. Months of January and February should be avoided because of the seasonal snowfall.
When the question arises as to how to reach the starting point – Galu, there are various ways to reach there. However, the most convenient ways are a) Hiring a taxi from McLeod Ganj till Galu or b) Start trekking from Bhagsu Nag (upper Himalayas).
Trekking the entire way is preferable, however, services of hiring a horse or a pony are available.
From Galu eye-widening natural sceneries are never-ending!
The Bhagsu Waterfall is an essential part of one’s trek. This waterfall is situated near the Bhagsu Nath temple. It has a cataract of 30ft during monsoon and becomes a highlight for the tourists. The Freshwater down the hill is considered holy and people often plunge into the water in order to get rid of their miseries.
ESSENTIALS FOR THE TREK:
– A daysack containing a water bottle, camera, and personal clothing
– Sports Shoes
– Sun protection
– Warm jacket
– Torch
– Flip-Flops
– Personal medicines (if any)
– Rain protection (a raincoat or an umbrella)
The journey does not end with Triund! Above Triund is the Must Watch “Snow Line” and above the snow line lies the ” Indrahar Pass.”
