World Health Organization will look into Video Games addiction in 2018
Well most of us are in love with playing Video Games …..but as all of us know..” excess of anything is not good “
Ohh, look! WHO has something to say about video game addiction…
Video game addiction will be categorized as a mental health condition this year…
Gaming disorder according to the WHO is “characterized by a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior,” which also includes not having control over the amount of time you play video games, putting gaming over other important priorities, and being persistent in playing games no matter what the consequence is!
This basically adds up to video game addiction and when ICD-11 is going to be published in 2018, it can be a more easily diagnosable condition.
In the past, video game addiction has led to some pretty negative outcomes, including one death in 2005 when a man played this game called StarCraft for more than two days consecutively with hardly any breaks. Well in 2010, a couple that was so busy playing a game failed to care to feed their 3-month-old baby, who died of malnutrition.
However, The WHO entry does not contain any information regarding prevention or treatment of gaming disorder.
Pokemon Go caused 110,000 road accidents in just 10 days.
